Best Fish And Chips In The Eastern Suburbs

By December 5, 2018 No Comments

As summer approaches, there’s nothing like tucking into some fresh fish and chips as you watch the sun go down over the water.

And here in the Eastern beaches, we’re so lucky to have such a range of great options. Whether it’s a special meal or a takeaway dinner with the kids, we’ve got you covered with our list.

The Bucket List, Bondi Beach

The Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach

A relaxed, Mexican-themed interior, sky-blue walls, and panoramic views of the nation’s most iconic beach take The Bucket List straight to the top. It doesn’t hurt that all their seafood is MSC-certified. The fish and chips comes with pickles and tartare sauce, but we can’t go past the fish burger, served with coleslaw, lettuce, pickles and chips. Sit outside in summer and watch the sunset over the waves.

Out Of The Blue, Clovelly

272 Clovelly Road, Clovelly

One of Clovelly’s best-kept secrets is this tiny but bustling takeaway shop located on Clovelly Road and cooking fish, seafood and burgers to order. Try the grilled fish marinade or go for the traditional fish and chips with sustainably sourced NZ Hoki. For those with a sweet tooth, the old-school deep-fried Mars bars are a hit.

North Bondi Fish

120 Ramsgate Avenue, North Bondi

At the North end of Bondi Beach, tucked under the RSL and with sweeping views of the ocean is North Bondi Fish, the latest joint from celebrity chef Matt Moran. With a kitchen run by chef, surfer and fisherman Jesse McTavish, this is the best spot in Sydney for a special seafood meal. McTavish is committed to sourcing local ingredients, including sea rocket, which grows around the coastline and features in the “prawn sanga,” his modern take on the American staple, the lobster roll. But we can’t go past the VB-battered flathead with chips and tartare.

Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel, Watsons Bay

1 Military Road, Watsons Bay

Bayside, the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel is just seconds from the Watsons Bay ferry stop and offers a spacious outdoor area for a long, lazy lunch with a view. If you go on Mondays, the traditional fish and chips is the special, and locals flock to the terrace. The soft–shell crab sliders are a great entrée to share.

The Lure, Coogee

139 Dolphin Street, Coogee

Open from 10 am seven days a week, The Lure has a range of great family-friendly meal packs, including calamari and battered options for the kids. You can choose your own piece of fish from the display and have it cooked while you wait, or try the signature fish tacos topped with slaw, chilli mayo and tomato salsa. Why not get takeaway and enjoy it on the white sands of Coogee beach, just metres away?

The One That Got Away, Bondi

163 Bondi Road, Bondi

Tucked away from the beach, The One That Got Away is where Bondi locals go for their fish and chips. A full fishmonger with a range of house-marinaded options and seafood soups, the friendly staff will offer you a complimentary bouillabaisse while you wait for your order and will cook you anything from their extensive display. Kids will also be entertained by the kitsch interior.
