Suburb Spotlight – SOUTH COOGEE

By May 18, 2021 No Comments

Location

Situated just 9kms south-east of the Sydney CBD, South Coogee is synonymous with superstar homes, azure Pacific Ocean views and open green spaces. Bordered by Coogee and Maroubra, the suburb is close to all the beachside action. Latham Park is the suburb’s largest recreational facility, with bowling greens, tennis courts and fields to delight the sporting fanatic. The suburb also offers connection to the coastal walk to Bondi which runs through it in the east. One of South Coogee’s most famous landmarks is the Randwick Cemetery, containing many historical graves. The suburb is also home to the well regarded South Coogee Public School and is served by buses running northbound along Malabar Road to Bondi Junction and southbound to Maroubra Beach.

What The Locals Love

As Coogee’s quiet neighbour, South Coogee is out of the bustle, yet only moments to it all. And that’s exactly as the locals like it. Locals can be found hitting the coastal walk as the sun comes up or getting in a quick dip before work at hidden gem the Ivor Rowe Rockpool. Corner cafes are dotted through the suburb, with the South Coogee Bakehouse on Malabar Road serving up some of the best baked goods in the east. Catch up with friends over brunch at The Lion & Buffalo Café (do yourself a favour and try those zucchini and halloumi fritters) or check out the famous woodfire pizzas at the family friendly Bistro on the Greens overlooking the South Coogee Bowlo’s manicured lawns.

Spotlight Home

Known by locals as the modern day ‘Coogee Castle’, the iconic clifftop residence at 14 Bunya Parade is one of the suburbs most photographed homes. Completed in 1994 by Renato D’Ettorre, this award-winning home occupies a staggering 40m frontage to the ocean. The home has played host to movie stars, fashion shows and a popular television series.
